1906: The history of Royal Printgroup De Jong begins in 1906 when Tjeerd de Jong, together with his wife, Godelieve and son Johan, settles in Baarle-Nassau and opened a family printing business in conjunction with the publishing of the local paper, ‘Baarle’s Nieuws en Advertentieblad’ 1918: After the sudden death of Tjeerd de Jong in October, and Johan a few years earlier, Godelieve Baumers expands the business. Her oldest son, Emiel, and daughters Mari and Sepha, assisted her. 1939: Emiel de Jong takes over the business from his mother. In the following years, production is hampered by the outbreak of World War II. 1965: The platen press is replaced by an Automatic Heidelberg Cylinder printing press. 1968: Joep de Jong takes over the business over from his father, Emiel de Jong 1972:The relief printing/letter press process is replaced by sheetfed offset with the commissioning of a Heidelberg machine. At the end of 1972, the second two-colour Heidelberg paper press is installed.
1978: Commissioning of the first rotary press, a Goss Community, consisting of three printing units and a folding device. This press is frequently expanded in the following years. 1989: Commissioning of first heatset rotary press, an 8 page Albert Frankenthal press! Of its kind, this machine is unique in that it has the so-called full speed Flying Imprint, allowing interchangeable dealer names. 1998: Printgroup De Jong and Kampert Drukwerk in Oss combine forces. 2003: Printgroup De Jong acquires a 100% interest in Janssen/Pers rotary printing in Gennep. 2006: Printgroup De Jong receives the ‘Royal’ appellation during the 100th year anniversary celebration of the business. The acquisition of Webstar Printing in Beuningen follows in October 2006. 2007: Royal Printgroup De Jong invests in the future. Purchase of a KBA C408 32 page rotation press, a KBA C318 24 page rotation press 3 x, the Heidelberg XL offset sheetfed press with a format of 105 x 75, a small format Speedmaster 52/4, finishing equipment and digital printers. With an expansion from 8000 m2 to 35,000 m2 factory space and 20 printing presses in Baarle-Nassau alone, the business is the largest offset printer in the Benelux. |
